About Us
This project was inspired by the likes of The Center for Responsive Politics' opensecrets.org and The Virginia Public Access Project. We believe that the actions of elected officials are often clarified by examining public documents. Campaign finance records are, arguably, the most telling of such public documents.
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has a fairly functional, searchable database of campaign finance reports for state-level candidates. Regrettably, while still required to be filed, county and local-level campaign finance records are not integrated into the Department of State's database.
To access local-level campaign finance records, one must obtain them from the county elections office, often incurring a per-page fee. We believe that access to such vital documents should be more convenient to the public.
At this time, this project will focus on digitizing and making available campaign finance records respective to candidates for county and local-level office in Lackawanna County only.
As resources allow, this site will become more comprehensive, more functional, more searchable, and more customizable. Eventually, we may expand to cover other counties in northeast Pennsylvania.
